As we continue our Rooted in Community, Driven by Experience series, we are proud to highlight Bobby Weathers, a founding board member who has played a key role in the bank’s success for over 22 years.

With a background in business, finance, and civic leadership, Bobby brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for supporting small businesses and community growth.

Q&A with Bobby Weathers

What do you value most about being part of the Citizens Bank & Trust team?
"We have a great bank. I love being associated with the very talented, caring, professional, and community-minded individuals that work at Citizens Bank & Trust. I am also very proud of what we have done for our stockholders. We very quickly reached profitability after we began twenty-two years ago, and our assets grew to over a billion dollars in near-record time.

I would say what I value most as a director of this bank is being a small part of a truly great team that takes excellent care of their customers, takes pride in community commitment, and has been a big part of our communities’ financial success through partnering with so many small businesses and individuals that are not only our customers but our friends."

How do you see Citizens Bank & Trust making a positive impact in the community?
"Our people are an amazing group of individuals who love and serve their communities in so many ways. Just look at our Facebook pages, and you will get a glimpse of the many things our banks do to make our community better. That is just who we are. Citizens Bank & Trust truly cares."

What unique perspective or experience do you bring to the board?
"My values coincide with Citizens’ values, so whatever wisdom or intuitive input I have is motivated by what is best for our shareholders and other stakeholders—such as our team of outstanding bankers, support staff, and those we serve.

I express my opinions at board meetings and with others on our management team, and I work hard at being knowledgeable and sharing that knowledge. I also have a lot of friends and acquaintances in our service areas, as well as in business, which allows me to provide guidance as needed. I love being on this board."

How do you stay connected with the bank’s mission and core values in your role?
"I think my knowledge of what is going on in our communities, along with the experience I have as a bank director, allows me to have a good understanding of the nuts and bolts of running a bank profitably and efficiently to better serve the needs of our customers and stakeholders.

A well-run bank can help small businesses grow and provide them with wise counsel along the way. I understand the value of being there for our customers and nurturing those relationships. In our business, we have long understood the importance of putting customers first, and I think our bank understands that as well.

I spend a lot of time and take my role seriously as a director in staying abreast of what is going on in the banking industry so that we will thrive despite challenges we might face."

What does "community banking" mean to you, and why is it important?
"Community banking is vital to the health and well-being of small businesses. Small businesses provide the majority of new jobs created in this country, and it is extremely important that community banks like us are focused on serving their needs.

Citizens does an outstanding job of just that—providing capital for hardworking, smart, and motivated people who have that vital spark of motivation and the willingness to take risks to create well-run businesses that, in turn, employ productive and hardworking individuals in the markets we serve."

If you could describe Citizens Bank & Trust in three words, what would they be?
Service, Soundness, and Community

"Service" represents the bank’s dedication to its customers—providing exceptional care, personal relationships, and financial guidance that truly makes a difference. "Soundness" reflects the bank’s financial strength and stability, ensuring that CBT remains a trusted institution for individuals, families, and businesses. And "Community" is the heart of everything CBT does, from supporting local businesses to giving back through civic engagement and outreach. These three words perfectly sum up what makes Citizens Bank & Trust stand out.

What excites you most about the future of Citizens Bank & Trust?
"Our future is extremely bright. Our strong foundation of being a very well-capitalized bank, along with our greatest asset—our wealth of knowledgeable and committed bankers—plus the fact that we surround the fastest-growing area in Alabama, makes for a beautiful view of our potential for further growth, which I do believe we will see over the next few years."

 About Bobby

A lifelong resident of Boaz, Alabama, Bobby Weathers has served on the Citizens Bank & Trust Board of Directors since its inception in 2003. A graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Mathematics, Bobby joined his family business after college and remains actively involved in its continued growth.

Under his leadership, his family business has expanded from a single hardware store to a thriving enterprise that now includes five hardware stores, three furniture and appliance stores, a construction equipment rental company, and a real estate division focused on home rentals. His business expertise and commitment to the local economy provide valuable insight into CBT’s mission of supporting small businesses and fostering economic growth.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bobby is deeply involved in civic and community service. He has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 51 years, and together they have three children and seven grandchildren. He serves as a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Boaz and has actively participated in various civic organizations, including the Jaycees, Civitans, and Rotary Club.

Additionally, he serves as Director and Treasurer of Marshall-DeKalb Electric Cooperative and is a board member of the Snead State Community College Foundation. His longstanding dedication to community service and leadership continues to positively impact Boaz and the surrounding areas.
