Citizens Bank & Trust hosted 55 teams, the largest tournament to date, at its 7th Annual Citizens Charity Classic Golf Tournament on Monday, May 10, 2021. Held at Gunter’s Landing Golf Club, the tournament benefits Northeast Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), its beneficiary since the tournament’s inception.  This year’s proceeds amounted to $38,500 for FCA bringing the total donated over the last seven years to $250,000.

“We were so pleased to be able to host the Citizens Charity Classic again this year -- even after a weather-related cancellation from the prior week,” said Citizens Bank & Trust President and CEO, Charlie Williams. “This is such a significant event for our Bank that fits our mission so very well.   It takes each of our 130 employees to make this happen, with great contributions from those within the Bank and those that are participating more directly on site.    We have been blessed to have a growing event, and this year's Classic provided for the largest check we have ever written to the Northeast Alabama FCA at $38,500.   To think that in seven years we have played a role in the FCA's great calling with a total of $250,000 is a significant point of pride for Citizens Bank & Trust.   We are called to serve, and our staff has taken that call to heart.”

Despite having to postpone from the usual “first Monday in May” event date due to inclement weather, there was a great turnout. The Charity Classic hosted 55 four-man teams who participated over two flights. Golfers were able to choose either a morning or afternoon tee time and enjoyed fellowship with other participants throughout the day.  Prize money was awarded to first, second, and third place winners in two flights in both the morning and afternoon tee times. Golfers also had the opportunity to win door prizes including a grand prize of $500 cash. Farm Fresh Foods sponsored a Police & Fire Team from Albertville, Arab, Boaz, Guntersville, and the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office.

“All of the work that goes into planning the tournament makes it worth it when you get to see everyone come together for a great cause like FCA,” said Kasey Culbert, tournament manager and Marketing Officer at Citizens Bank & Trust. “The weather threw us a curve ball this year so the possibility of participation declining worried us a bit. But our participants were so great and the forecast wasn’t a deterrent in the least as we ended up with record turnout. We would like to again thank our Platinum sponsors, Colormasters and Ameri-Tek, in addition to all of our sponsors and golfers for their continued support in our 2021 charity tournament.”

FCA and the Bank staff the tournament with over 40 volunteers who help make sure everyone eats well and has a good time. The 2022 Citizens Charity Classic is set for Monday, May 2, at Gunter’s Landing Golf Club.
